Which golf supplies and accessories to get to outfit your green
Now that you have decided on the putting green you want you need to consider the golf supplies you can get to go with it. Probably the next most important golf accessories after you purchased a
green quality reel mower
are the cups and pins. The first thing to consider would be how to set up the hole. If you have gone the route of an artificial green, your options are much more limited as you holes placements are fixed and the cup is usually permanently in place. This means that on the green the only thing you can choose is the type of pin and flag.
With a real grass green though we have more choices and more equipment we need. We will need to find a hole changer. There are 3 basic styles of hole changers, and all work very well. The styles that rely on feet or hands to cut the hole require the hole cutter be sure they start straight and don't change the angle or the hole will be oval rather than round. The hammer style cup cutter is preferred because the hole is always perfectly round. Then you can choose the type of cup from shorter practice cups to regulation cups in either aluminium or plastic. The reason behind moving the hole around is threefold: to provide different challenge levels; to distribute wear around the green and to make sure the edges of the hole are always clean and the turf doesn't dry out.
Once the hole and cup are in place the next golf supplies you need are pins. Depending on the scale of your green, you may opt for the short practice type pins or full length 5 foot pins. In additional to the pins, flags and cups, there is a multitude of turf maintenance products that will help you to aerate, spike, sod, repair or do anything else you need on your green.
If you have the space for more than just a green, you will want to look at other golf supplies such as golf bunker, rakes, driving mats or golf nets.
The main manufacturers of golf supplies would be Standard Golf, Par Aide and Bayco. A search on Google should help you find distributors in your area, though many have a policy that prevents them from selling to individuals. Probably the best source for most people is to get to know the people working at your local golf club. Often they will have used golf supplies lying around that they can sell for a fraction of the new price.
